I have always been a Country Music enthusiast having grown up in Ireland listening to the sounds of the Irish showband scene during
the sixties and seventies, this is something that has stuck with me all my life. Having emigrated to South Africa during the eighties
I was astonished to find that Country Music was as popular in South Africa as it was in Ireland with many great Country Music singers
here also. Fast forward to 2019 and with the event corvid19 having landed on our shores which has suspended my business in the Tourism
Industry and now as I was at a loose end, this prompted me to get involved in on line internet radio as a means to occupy my mind
and as a result I started a show called Sounds Country and Contemporary Music, which I host every week on Belgian Country Radio featuring
good old country and gospel music along with good contemporary music by singers from all over the world.
This is a life event that
I am thoroughly enjoying and I extend my sincere thanks to all my friends and associates who have helped me make all this possible.
It
would be my pleasure to welcome anybody along especially if you are interested in Country Music.

The Big Dawg Country Show is hosted by the Big Dawg Mervyn Newell from Belfast Northern Ireland, who has loved Country Music all his life.
I have been a collector of LP's since the age of 16with a collection of over 7000 LP's, I have listened to all the greats like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash.
In 2017 I became friends witha gentlemanwhom cannot be named and started the Country Folk Promotions Group on Facebookwith the intention of helping up and coming artists, since then I have put on the odd charity showand in the last year D.j.Sam from Sunnset Country Radio South Africaasked me to prerecord some shows.
I still try to help artists if I think they have potential, so I hope you all listen in and enjoy my shows.

this weekend (week commencing Saturday 16TH DECEMBER 2023) and all through next week we have a brand new show bringing 3 hours of
wonderfully diverse country music – lashings of great sounds including honky tonk, western swing, bush balladry, bluegrass, gospel,
yodels, – it’s all included!!
There is the usual wide range new releases and rarities with which we always stack the show – from brand
new recordings back to the 1930s, AND the show includes a recently discovered interview that Paul Hazell did with the legendary SMOKY
DAWSON back in 1987!!.
